Elon Musk would donate $6 billion on the fight against hunger in the world

Could Elon Musk alone conquer
hunger in the world? At least that is what the director of the World Food
Program believes. The Tesla boss is ready for it – if you show him how it
should work.

billion against world hunger – if UN can prove it can solve world hunger

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has promised
to spend six billion dollars on the fight against hunger in the world – on one
condition. According to the “Forbes” ranking, the richest person in
the world announced that he would sell Tesla shares in this value and donate
the proceeds to the United Nations World Food Program if it shows how the
hunger problem in the world can be solved with the money.

The head of the United Nations
World Food Program, David Beasley, wants to meet Elon Musk to raise a billion
dollar donation against the acute hunger crisis. He was ready “on earth –
or in space,” tweeted Beasley, alluding to Musk’s space ambitions. Beasley
wanted to explain to the Tesla boss how the richest man in the world could help
alleviate hunger in the world.

The sum would correspond to about
two percent of the wealth of Musk, which brings it to about 300 billion US
dollars according to “Forbes”. The fortunes of Musk and many other
multi-billionaires rose sharply during the corona pandemic, among other things
because of gains in the stock market.

The richest person in the world,
Musk was recently listed as the first person on the Bloomberg Billionaires
Index with an estimated net worth of over $ 300 billion. The index currently
lists the Tesla CEO’s net worth at $ 311 billion. The six billion demanded by
Beasley would therefore correspond to two percent of his assets. With such a
donation, he would still surpass the second richest man in the world, Amazon
founder Jeff Bezos, by at least $ 100 billion. Both men’s net worth is largely
made up of stocks in the companies they started or made great.

Musk demands a public and
transparent approach

Beasley also replied to Musk in a
tweet: “I can assure you that we have the systems for transparency and open
source accounting. Your team can check it out and work with us to be absolutely
sure of it. ”However, Beasley also made it clear that the UN World Food Program
never said that $ 6 billion would“ solve the world hunger problem ”. “This
is a one-time donation to save 42 million lives during this unprecedented
hunger crisis,” he tweeted.

Beasley has repeated his appeal
to the billionaires asking them to work to fight hunger in the world. “It’s not
complicated. I don’t ask you to do this every day, every week, every year,
”Beasly told CNN. “The top 400 billionaires in the United States added $
1.8 trillion to their net worth over the past year,” he continued. “All I
ask of you is 0.36 percent of your net worth. I am for people to make money,
but God knows I am also for you to help the people who are in great need now.
The world is in trouble.”
